AV checklist for new venues
A checklist for planning audio, video and network infrastructure in a new office, cafe, gym or bar before the fit-out is signed off.
· 1 min read
The cheapest time to add AV infrastructure is before the walls are closed. Use this checklist with your builder, interior designer and technician to avoid expensive retrofits later.
Before design is finalised
- Confirm the purpose of each room: meetings, presentations, background music, events or signage
- Plan equipment racks and a ventilated cupboard with power and space
- Agree on a network design, including switch ports for every screen and speaker
During first fix
- Run conduit or containment for speaker and display cables
- Install backing boards or blocking where screens and brackets will mount
- Label every cable at both ends and record the route
During second fix and commissioning
- Mount speakers and displays and confirm sightlines and coverage
- Set up media players, scheduling and user accounts
- Test every input and output, and document settings and passwords securely
Handover
Ask for a site handover pack that includes wiring diagrams, device lists, login details stored in a shared password manager, and a maintenance schedule. Keep a copy off site so the system can be supported even if your original technician is unavailable.
