How to get more local clients as an IT or AV technician

Practical ways for freelance IT, AV and computer technicians to win more local work: a strong profile, photos, posts, fast replies, clear offers and ratings.

· 1 min read

Most local tech work is won the same way everywhere: someone has a problem, searches nearby, and contacts the person who looks most trustworthy and replies fastest. Here is how to be that person.

Make your profile do the selling

  • Use a clear name and a friendly photo or logo.
  • Write a bio in plain language. Say who you help, where, and what problems you fix. Avoid jargon; many clients are not technical.
  • Tick every skill you genuinely offer. Clients filter by skill, so missing ones mean missed jobs.
  • Set an accurate service area and city so you appear on the map in the right place.

Show real work

Add up to five photos of real jobs: tidy racks, neat installs, before-and-after shots. Then post short updates: a recent job, a tip for clients, a new certification. Profiles with real work look far more trustworthy than empty ones.

Reply fast, and send a clear offer

Speed wins jobs. Reply the same day, ask any questions you need, then send an offer with what you will do, the price and a suggested date. A clear offer with a one-tap accept button is much easier for a non-technical client to say yes to than a long email.

Earn ratings

After each job, mark it as done. Your client is then asked for a star rating, which appears on your profile and helps you rank higher. Thumbs up from people who know your work help too.

Stand out for the jobs you want

Featured and priority add-ons put your listing above others in search, and badge packs show specialities such as "IT support specialist" or "Patient with beginners".
